Modern Warfare 2 continues the gripping and heart-racing action as players face off against a new threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse.

About our Consumer section

This section provides a comprehensive review of everything that you need to know about each video game we have reviewed. We’ve thought about everything a gamer needs to know before making a purchase: Is the game too difficult? Does it have good graphics and sound? A solid story-line? Can you play it with your buddies and are the controls so hard that a cyborg would struggle with them? We all know how tough it is to find an awesome game and we hope that this review will help.

Challenge:

Anyone who played the first Modern Warfare will notice the increase in difficulty of Modern Warfare 2. The increase in difficulty seems to come mainly from the increased number of enemies and their aggressiveness. The enemies will actually charge the player and even try things like flanking or popping out of buildings to catch the player off guard. In some missions it can be fairly annoying, and difficult to overcome, however when turning the difficulty down to the easiest level of difficulty these parts are manageable even for people who are new to the series. Overall Modern Warfare 2 does a good job of adapting the difficulty to veteran players, while still making new players welcome into the game.

Graphics:

Simply put, Modern Warfare 2 sets the bar for first person shooters in terms of graphics. All of the levels, environments, and effects put into the game are phenomenal. Everything in the game is extremely detailed, and as a player you will find yourself extremely immersed with the countless explosions and gunfights in the game. The people at Infinity Ward and Activision took graphics in first person shooters to a new level with Modern Warfare 2.

Replay Value:

Modern Warfare 2 will not take a very long time to beat the main storyline, however the end of the campaign is hardly the end of the game’s playable features. As usual with this series, the seemingly best parts of the game are the online and multiplayer features. The online play is excellent and always exciting, and will keep you coming back for more action for a long time to come. As a consumer you will more than likely spend most of your time online playing other people. The replay value is nothing to be worried about, Modern Warfare 2 gives you your money’s worth.

Narrative:

As with most first person shooters, Modern Warfare 2 features a linear storyline. There is no choice on where the player goes or how the player choices affect the plot of the story. This is always something that makes holding the attention of the player more difficult, but Modern Warfare 2 does a pretty good job. The story is quite dramatic, putting the player constantly in danger or at major turning points during a global scale conflict. The narrative is nothing to be disappointed over, but it does somewhat limit the player’s involvement in the campaign.

Ease of use:

For any player returning to the series the controls come quite naturally, as they tend not to change across their games. To a new player, you may find some getting used to with the controls. The controls and introduction to the style of play are fairly well explained when starting a campaign.

Social Playability:

Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most socially playable games on the market today. The best points of the game in fact are the online play and co-operative play modes. I could very easily recommended that someone should buy the game purely for the online and multiplayer content.

Overall Grade: A

Modern Warfare 2 does not disappoint in any real category and in most places it surpasses expectations. The story is worth following, the graphics can mesmerize, and the online play can make hours seem like minutes. Modern Warfare 2 is worth its cost and more.

About our Parent section

Parents, we understand the problems you have with video games. Some are violent, inappropriate, and most just cost a lot of money. Fortunately, we understand that these are legitimate concerns and have therefore included in our review a few things that parents need to know about a video game: the amount of violence it has, sexually suggestive material, gender stereotyping, bad language, addictiveness and replay value. We have included all the criteria for a money-worthy and appropriate purchase for your children. We hope you find our evaluations helpful.

Replay Value:

As I said before, your child will spend a lot of time playing this game. Modern Warfare is one of the best games at keeping people coming back for more and Modern Warfare 2 is no different. You will get your money’s worth from this game, the bigger problem is really when will your kid stop playing.

Objectionable Content:

  • Violence- Modern Warfare 2 is very violent. It features lots of blood, guns, and killing. It portrays the killing in a wartime scenario however, not as a raging mass murderer. It is the basis for the game, the only way to progress is to kill opponents and enemies. There is a level in the game that is exceptionally disturbing, however: Where the player is supposed to kill innocent civilians. The game gives the player the option to skip this level with no consequences, but parents should be warned that this particular level was even somewhat disturbing for older audiences.
  • Sexually Suggestive- Modern Warfare 2 contains little or no sexually suggestive elements. It sticks to a strict content line of only showing soldiers and war, nothing that degrades women in any way.
  • Gender Stereotyping- like most combat based games, especially those about American soldiers, the protagonists (there are multiple people you play as) are all male. The men are shown to be the heroes who are strong and brave who are there to save anyone else. But other than showing men as the dominant figures there isn’t any sort of negative stereotyping
  • Language- as a game rated Mature, there is some mild language however it is not very prevalent through the playing of the game.

Addictiveness

Modern Warfare 2 is a very addicting game, which can be a good thing if you are worried your kid will not play the game for very long before moving on, but can be a bad thing if you are worried about your child spending too much time playing. This is mainly due to the online play, where it takes longer to upgrade characters and unlock items. In any case, the player will spend much time coming back to the game.

About our Academic section

In our dealings with virtual games, we have also explored the academic research on the topic. We understand the roles that presence, narrative, and even aggression have and we also understand that certain video games might influence learning, gamers’ social interaction, stereotyping and sexual messaging. We have included in our review this section for those interested on the academic perspective of video games and how certain game characteristics can affect video game players.

Academic Perspective

Modern Warfare 2 is very interesting as a game because of the improvements it brings to the genre of shooter games. The realistic graphics and effects and really generate a sense of presence (i.e., perception of non-mediation) in the game for the player. The fact that a majority of play is online with teams and against other people may cause this game to increase the player’s aggression more than other game titles. The violent content and the fact that many players will play for very extended amounts of time may be cause for concern when dealing with priming (i.e., activating of aggressive thoughts due to their relatedness with the aggressive material) and the familiarity one may gain when playing the game for so long. Modern Warfare 2 is, however, from a purely militaristic viewpoint. That is to say, there is no sexual perspective placed on the game play other than having a male soldier as the character. This could be argued for the sake of the realism in the game because most soldiers are in fact male.

Note:

Another game whose popularity almost equals the online holdem sites are the online bingo games. Bingo lovers can get the amazing experience to play bingo online like the online bingo Sharon. Most of these sites allow you to play with some great pay outs including the ability to play free bingo. However when you play online bingo, there is a downside in case you are playing in those free bingo sitesFree bingo games sure do not require you to pay money, but if you win in a free bingo game you do not even have the chance of earning money as well. In fact those who do go to play in those free bingo sites it is either to play bingo for fun or to be a master of the bingo games rules. So if you want to learn the game, the best strategy for you is to play free bingo.  Of course it’s the same story with free online holdem sites which is meant for beginners of Texas holem.

Left 4 Dead 2: Review

Author : admin

Set in the zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to Left 4 Dead of 2008. This co-operative action horror First-Person-Shooter takes you and your friends through the cities, swamps and cemeteries of the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans across five expansive campaigns.

Challenge

If you have ever played Left 4 Dead then Left 4 Dead 2 is extremely similar in the difficulty level. Just like the original there are zombies everywhere but there are some new arrivals that will grab your attention pretty quickly. On the bright side there are many new to kill them as well. Maybe you want to use a chain saw or an axe to chop them to pieces. I found the campaign in L4D2 much more appealing than that of the original.

Graphics

The graphics of Left 4 Dead 2 were slightly better than that of the original. On the other hand they did add some interesting effects that weren’t in the original. When chopping up zombies with an axe or chainsaw you get blood spatter on the screen.

Replay Value

While I wouldn’t replay the campaign in this game over and over again like some other games, its true value lies in the multiplayer on Xbox Live. Off of Xbox Live I do enjoy playing survival mode and killing zombies with a frying pan and baseball bat from time to time.

Narrative

The story in L4D2 is just like that of L4D. You’re part of a rag tag crew of survivors trying to escape a zombie infested city. As you make your way to safety you have to battle hordes of zombies. I would have enjoyed the game a little more if they decided to change up the setting a little more. Maybe to have made it more like one of the resident evil movies. All and all it’s still interesting and a captivating story.

Ease of Controls

It has a very good default layout for the Xbox 360 controller. You can alter the sensitivity of your controllers easily.

Social Playability

Xbox Live need I say more. There are rankings and tons of party play features on live. Also there is co-op play for campaign and survival off of Xbox Live.

Social Playability

As far as a game to buy to entertain your kids, it would only be worth it if you also have Xbox Live or plan to get it for them. If not then I would say this game would entertain them for a couple weeks and that’s about it. It can be fun to play survival with your friends off live for a little while but it’s eventually going to get a little boring.

Objectionable Content

As far as this goes on a movie rating scale this would be an R due to the graphic violence present in the game. The language is a little mild but the majority of the content is extremely violent and gory. There are parts of the game where blood spatters on the screen or where you chop up zombies with an axe or chain saw. So if you’re ok with letting your kids do that then go ahead and buy it.  If not, then maybe you should choose a milder game.

Academic Perspective

This game provides a great sense of arousal to the player. I definitely could feel my heart beating and my hands started to sweat while playing this game. It is very intense and provides a great sense of presence and immersion which both lead to the sense of flow when you’re slaughtering zombies.

Note :

Another extremely popular casino game is the slot machine game. In fact one of the reasons Las Vegas has such a crowd is that people love to play casino slots. Over the internet also it is possible to play online slot.  The ability to play free slots in the slot machine games websites is just meant to play online slot for fun. Other games like roulette games are also quite popular.  If you have no idea about the casino world it is advisable that you train yourself up with the help of the internet.

ForzaMotorsport 3 is a realistic racing simulator for the Xbox 360, the sequel to Forza Motorsport (Xbox) and Forza Motorsport 2 (Xbox 360).The game includes over 400 fully customizable cars from 50manufacturers and over 100 tracks. Every car in the game has been builtwith more than 10 times the amount of polygons as Forza Motorsport 2.

Challenge

Forza Motorsport 3 does a fantastic job adapting the game to anyone who decides to pick up a controller and try it out. They have quite a few different “assists” to make the game easier for the player. These different options can be turned off to make the game more difficult or kept on for novice player. The “assists” offered include; automatic braking, a line telling you where to go/when to brake, and a rewind setting to redo failed turns. This can make the game any difficulty ranging from incredibly easy to almost impossible.

Graphics

The biggest thing for racing games to hit if they want to be successful nowadays is the realism factor. The cars have to look and behave realistically, Forza Motorsport 3 does a VERY good job of bringing a realistic racing experience to the XBOX. The graphics are stunning and the cars are beautifully picturesque. At times you may find yourself looking at the detailed car interior more than the track you just veered off of. Car fans will be quite pleased with the effort put into making the cars look as good as they do.

Replay Value

Forza Motorsport 3 is a fairly long game with numerous different cars and race tracks to visit. It can take quite a while to do everything that there is to do in the game. However there is not a whole lot of replay value after completing the game, or even after getting your dream car and driving it for awhile. Any die-hard racing fan will no doubt play for much longer than someone new to the genre. There is some online playability and you can even auction your cars online which is fun, but the real fun is in saving up your credits to get that multimillion dollar car of your dreams.

Narrative

The narrative in Forza Motorsport 3 is almost non-existent, but then again in a racing game there is really only one way to progress:   to get better cars and race faster opponents. The racing campaign is set up as a schedule of races, much like how it would be in real life, and you choose a race series to fill the days in between championship contests. Forza Motorsport 3 relies mainly on the player’s enthusiasm for cars to keep them interested, something that not all players will have.

Ease of use

This is a game that is VERY simple to play, almost arcade simple. For anyone just starting there are only two buttons and one joystick needed to play; the throttle, the brake, and the steering. Driving a car in manual will add more controls and using the handbrake adds another, but these controls are still fewer than games like Call of Duty. The game is very easy to get used to and remember the controls.

Social Playability

Forza Motorsport 3 is very fun to play with your friend, but that’s only if you’re playing online. The multiplayer seems to lose some of the excitement that is present in the single player. You can’t appreciate the graphics or sounds when splitting a television screen. One of the downfalls is the lack in sheer number of players you would see in other online Xbox games like Halo. It’s more fun to race your friends, but hard to find some who play the game.

Overall Grade: B+

Forza Motorsport 3 is an extremely realistic experience and has amazing visuals throughout the game. Every one of the racetracks is a real place and are all quite unique. The excitement of driving through Times Square is something special when the graphics are this good. The spectacular cars and the sounds they make will make any car fan smile when driving in a tunnel. Forza Motorsport 3 is a fantastic experience and easy to get used to, recommended for both car fanatics and anyone who is just a fan of great visuals in games.

Replay Value

If your child likes cars or likes good-looking games they will more than likely spend many hours progressing through various world championships. The campaign is much longer than in shooter games, but once completed it lacks in the replay ability. It will keep your child occupied for a good while, as long as they enjoy racing games or cars.

Objectionable Content

There is no objectionable content that comes to mind other than some VERY mild lyrics in the songs you hear while racing. While condoning fast driving, it only does so in a very professional and specialized environment, on the race track.

Addictiveness

Forza Motorsport 3 could be a very addictive game for the right type of person, which of course would be someone who has a deep passion for cars and or racing. For the average person it is a very fun game to play through but not to keep coming back to. Most likely your child will love it, but probably won’t come back to it in the distant future.

In our dealings with virtual games, we have also explored the academic research on the topic. We have included in our review this section for those interested on the academic perspective of video games and how certain game characteristics can affect video game players.

Academic Perspective

From an academic perspective Forza Motorsport 3 is interesting.  While it does not promote aggressive behavior, many of the tests to rate aggressiveness are actually studying excitation level. There could very easily be increased physiological arousal (e.g., heart rate) in people playing a fast- paced racing game, especially one so realistic. This may be because of the graphics and how real the cars look. Even the interiors of the cars are extremely detailed. This likely gives a very good sense of presence (i.e., perceptions of non-mediation) in the game. It is possible that a more realistic  experience helps the player reach a state of flow (i.e., total psychological absorption in the game to the point of loss of sense of time) much more quickly and at a higher rate.
